See all Things to DoFor the ones who did not come home
Westport put this up itself. In 1960 the town's fishermen, residents, the Westport boosters, the Port of Grays Harbor and the crew of Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor built a permanent memorial to the people lost working out of this port, and it was dedicated the following year. It has stood on the waterfront for more than sixty-five years now. This is a bar port — every boat leaving here crosses the Grays Harbor bar to reach open water and crosses it again to come home — and the names on the memorial are the reason locals talk about the bar the way they do. It takes five minutes and it is the piece of Westport that explains the rest of it. If you only stop at one thing on the waterfront that is not a boat, make it this.
