Where a million shorebirds stop to feed
Bottle Beach sits on the tide flats of southern Grays Harbor, and in spring it is one of the best shorebird stops on the Washington coast. More than a million migratory shorebirds and seabirds move through the harbor on their way north, and this is where you can stand still and watch them feed. Over 130 species have been recorded here, raptors included. A 0.7-mile interpretive trail runs from the parking area out to two viewing platforms. It is ADA accessible and pedestrian-only — no bikes, horses or vehicles. There are restrooms and accessible parking at the trailhead. The tide runs the show here. Come on a rising tide and the water walks the flock in toward the platforms; come at dead low and the birds are specks half a mile out. Bring binoculars either way.
