Grayland's Finnish hall, still in use
Grayland was settled by Finnish immigrants in the years around 1913, when the first cranberry tracts here were sold to them and planted. In 1939 that community built this hall on Cranberry Road, and it is still standing and still in use. It is a working community building rather than a museum — a South Beach Parks and Recreation District property, rented for dances, markets, meetings, memorials and whatever else the town needs a room for. If something is happening in Grayland, there is a fair chance it is happening here. There is no exhibit and nothing to tour. What there is, is a plain wooden hall that a farming community put up for itself and has kept up ever since.
