Surf at the jetty end, learners on the sand
Westhaven sits at the north tip of the Westport peninsula, right against the jetty, and it is the reason Westport gets called a surf town. The waves here are consistent enough to ride in any month of the year, which is rare on this coast and is why people drive over from Seattle and Portland for a weekend. The beach splits in two, and knowing which half you are on matters. The jetty end throws the steeper, heavier wave and that is where experienced surfers go. South of it the bottom is shallow sand and the waves come in softer — that is the learners' beach, and every local surf school uses it. Outside the water it is a wide, flat beach with room for beachcombing and kites, and the paved Dune Trail runs from here down to Westport Light State Park. Day use only, with restrooms and showers at the lot.
